Each year, millions of women around the world experience perimenopause, a phase of life that can drastically impact physical and mental health, experiences in the workplace, and familial and social relationships.
All too often, this transition is shrouded in silence and even stigma. In fact, only 28 percent of women say they know what to expect in their perimenopause experience. In Oura’s 2024 Perimenopause Report, we analyzed aggregate, de-identified data from more than 100,000 female Oura members for one year to better understand how perimenopause impacts women’s day-to-day functioning. Download the report here.
At Oura, we are committed to building a future where every woman feels holistically understood and supported in their health. With the newly launched Perimenopause Check-In, members can assess the impact of their symptoms through a clinically validated survey and track trends over time. Learn more below.
Perimenopause: A Time of Change
Perimenopause marks a significant life transition that most women will experience during the ages of 45 to 55 years old. The transition begins with perimenopause, the period before menopause when your body gradually produces less estrogen and cycles become irregular. This can occur as early as your mid-30s.
The transition to menopause is characterized by a range of symptoms, caused by changing hormone levels. While everyone’s journey is unique, you may experience symptoms such as vaginal dryness, hot flashes, sleep disturbances, anxiety, depression, brain fog, weight gain, joint pain, or a racing heart, as well as changes in body image and sexual health.
Some women may be able to reduce the impact of these symptoms through lifestyle changes, such as physical activity or meditation and mindfulness practices. Others may find symptom relief with hormonal interventions. However, in order to address any symptoms, it’s important to first recognize the signs of perimenopause and, in many cases, consult a medical professional.
How to Use Oura’s Perimenopause Check-In
Perimenopause Check-In is the first solution of its kind to integrate validated symptom scoring, wearable data, and direct access to specialty care, all in one platform. Accessible via the main menu on the Today tab, this new tool empowers members to track symptoms, understand their impact, and secure care with greater confidence through a combination of structured self-assessment, health data visualization, and in-app care pathways.
Members begin by completing the 12-question Menopause Rating Scale (MRS) survey, which is one of the most thoroughly validated and widely used menopause symptom questionnaires, to receive a personalized assessment reflecting the severity of their symptoms and overall quality of life.
Following survey completion, members receive a PDF report summarizing their symptoms, biometric trends, and cycle data that is designed to be easily shared with healthcare providers. They also gain access to a curated educational content hub that illuminates perimenopause symptoms, shares science-backed guidance, and features stories from real women navigating this life stage.
