Who: Ted N., 65, Roswell, GA
Life-saving learning: When Ted noticed that his resting heart rate skyrocketed from 45 bpm to 130 bpm on his Oura App, he called his doctor and was told to go straight to the emergency room. There, it was determined he was having an A-fib episode, and he underwent a procedure to return his heart to its correct rhythm.
“I sing my Oura Ring praises to everyone I know and it probably saved my life,” Ted says.
How did you first come across Oura?
I initially bought Oura when I heard the NBA was using it during Covid, and I got it because I read that it could detect early Covid symptoms. Initially, I used it to check on my sleep patterns, heart rate, and calorie burn.
Tell us how Oura helped you detect atrial fibrillation (A-fib).
One day I noticed that my resting heart rate had gone from 45 bpm to 130 bpm. I called my doctor and she said it was likely an anomaly. A few days later, I called back when nothing was changing — and she told me to go immediately to the emergency room. There, a lot of tests and reviews determined I had A-fib. I underwent a procedure to shock my heart back into its correct rhythm, and my doctor cleared me to get back to normal.
I love the Oura Ring. It’s probably the best $400 I ever spent — definitely a game changer and a life saver.
What are some other ways you utilize Oura?
After over 2 years of having the Oura Ring, I primarily use it to:
- Review my sleep
- Review my calorie burn
- When I ride my Peloton, I use it to review my workout heart rate and calorie burn
- When I have trouble sleeping, I’ll use the meditations in the Oura App (Explore content)

Are there any specific ways Oura has changed your habits or behaviors?
As I get older I realized how my sleep habits relate to my overall health, and I find it really has helped me focus on my sleep. I was having trouble sleeping and was using melatonin but no longer use that as a sleep aid.
