Gone are the days when „fitness“ was solely defined by cardio. At Oura, we believe all movement counts—whether you’re running errands, running laps, or running after your kids.
In a recent internal analysis, Oura’s data science team analyzed de-identified data from female Oura members, revealing key trends and insights into how members are moving their bodies on a daily basis.
Below, explore the key findings, including the rise of resistance training, the popularity of Pilates, and the ever-present role of everyday movement, such as walking and housework.
The Strength Surge: More Women Lifting, Across All Ages
Strength training has been steadily growing in popularity among women worldwide—a trend reflected in Oura member data. And there are good reasons for this growth: Strength training delivers a range of science-backed benefits such as improved metabolic health, sleep, posture, confidence, and much more.
- From June 2024 to June 2025, the number of female Oura members tagging “strength training” workouts skyrocketed by 159.8%, representing a growth from 168,592 to 438,026 unique members.
- Strength training was the third most popular logged workout among women globally, following “walking” and “housework.”
Importantly, this trend isn’t limited to a single generation. While younger women are leading the charge, the embrace of strength training is consistent across every age group in our analysis.
- Ages 18–29: A phenomenal 173.6% growth
- Ages 30–39: An equally impressive 173.2% growth
- Ages 40–49: Strong growth at 140.1%
- Ages 50–59: Continued dedication with 129.3% growth
- Ages 60–69: Embracing strength with 140.6% growth
This data signifies women are discovering the transformative power of strength, realizing its benefits extend far beyond aesthetics to overall health, longevity, and empowerment.

Pilates Trends With Women Under 40

Another rapidly growing workout trend among Oura’s female members is Pilates, especially popular with younger women.
- Pilates saw a remarkable 219.5% overall growth, with 191,697 members tagging “Pilates” in June 2025 compared to 60,006 in June 2024.
- Pilates is particularly trending among women under 40, with 238.5% growth for 18-29 year olds and 240.5% growth for 30-39 year olds.
Pilates offers a blend of strength, flexibility, and mind-body connection, making it a powerful complement to more intense training or a standalone practice for building core strength and improving posture.

Everyday Movement Still Reigns Supreme

Track Your Moves With Oura
Oura’s insights are designed to empower you to understand your body and optimize your well-being, whether you’re lifting heavy or taking a leisurely stroll.
Here are a few ways Oura accurately tracks your activity levels and helps ensure you’re balancing workouts and rest effectively.
- Automatic Activity Detection (AAD): Oura Ring automatically detects over 40 different activities, including strength training, walking, and even housework, using a 3D accelerometer to track your movement and heart rate data to determine intensity and calorie burn. After your activity, check your Oura App to confirm or edit the detected workout. This helps Oura’s algorithms learn your unique movement patterns, making future detections even more accurate
- Pay Attention to Your Readiness Score: Oura’s Readiness Score is your ultimate guide. After a challenging strength session or cardio class, your Readiness Score will reflect how well your body has recovered the next day. A lower Readiness Score might suggest prioritizing rest or opting for a lighter activity. A higher score means you’re ready to take on more.
- Personalize Your Activity Goals: Customize your daily activity goal in the Oura App. You can choose to focus on steps or active calories. Your personalized activity goal adjusts based on your Readiness Score, which helps you balance your movement and recovery effectively.
- Integrate with Other Apps: If you use other fitness apps like Strava, connect them with Oura. This allows Oura to pull in detailed workout data, giving you a more holistic view of your fitness and how it impacts your overall health and recovery within the Oura ecosystem.
