Feature FAQs
Oura measures your resting heart rate during sleep and rest by detecting changes in your Blood Pulse Volume (PPG). The measurements are done from the arteries on the palm side of your finger using two infrared LEDs.

No, Oura doesn’t track heart rate during exercise or other activities. The ring tracks your resting heart rate while you sleep, and during restful moments during the day.

You can, but to protect your finger and your ring, we don’t recommend it. Like regular jewelry, Oura can scratch if worn while lifting weights or gripping bars, or when scraping against metal, ceramics or stone. Learn more about product safety.
